Operations Executive – Data‑Driven Strategic Support to MD

Location: Leyland, Lancashire, PR25 3US
Type: Full Time, Permanent
Salary: £34,000–£39,000 depending on experience, with opportunity to progress

About the role

RTG Automotive is looking for a proactive, analytically minded Operations Executive to join the management team and help drive performance through data.

This role blends hands‑on operations with data analysis, building the reporting, KPIs and insight the Managing Director needs to scale an eCommerce‑led business efficiently

**Advanced/Expert Level of Microsoft Excel is a must**

You will own key operational datasets (stock, pricing, listings, service), turn them into clear dashboards and actions, and track the impact of changes on cost, service levels and revenue over time

Work closely with the MD on projects with scope to experiment, improve existing processes, identify opportunities in areas to develop new methods with clear accountability based on results

What you’ll be doing

Process & data management

· Own the accuracy and structure of product, stock, and pricing data across spreadsheets and platforms, targeting >99% data accuracy on critical fields (e.g. SKU, price, location).

· Maintain and continuously improve large Excel‑based and system‑based processes (imports, templates, checks), using multiple formulas and pivot tables to reduce manual effort and error rates.

· Design and run simple data quality checks (e.g. exception reports, active price checks, negative stock, margin flags, missing attributes) and track seller performance levels monthly across our online stores

· Support the optimization of eCommerce and warehouse workflows by mapping current processes, quantifying bottlenecks (e.g. inefficient tasks/systems, orders per hour, messages per hour, error counts) and recommending & implementing agreed changes.

Reporting, KPIs & analysis

· Build and maintain weekly and monthly dashboards for:

o Sales and margin by channel, category and SKU.

o Stock health (cover, ageing, availability, overstocks).

o Operational performance (order cycle time, pick/pack productivity, error rates, return reasons).

· Help define and track a core set of operational KPIs (for example: order‑to‑dispatch time, on‑time dispatch %, stock accuracy %, return rate %, and cost per order) and highlight trends, anomalies and root causes.

· Produce ad‑hoc deep dives (e.g. under‑performing SKUs, high‑return items, channel profitability, price elasticity signals) and translate findings into clear operational actions for the MD and wider team.

· Support demand forecasting and buying decisions by maintaining simple forecast models in Excel (e.g. rolling averages, seasonality patterns) and comparing forecast vs actual

· Competitor analysis to identify trends and fast selling products to research any potential new product items/categories for future investment in our own brand products

Decision support & continuous improvement

· Work with the MD to turn data into decisions, tracking the impact of changes (e.g. process tweaks, pricing changes, supplier switches) on revenue, margin, cost and customer experience.

· Use data to prioritize and justify improvement projects (for example: quantifying time saved, error reduction or stock reduction before and after a process change)

· Document key reports, definitions, and data flows so that operational decision‑making becomes consistent and scalable.

Team coordination & cross‑functional support

· Coordinate with office, warehouse and trade counter teams using clear, data‑backed updates (e.g. daily order queues, key backorders, at‑risk SLAs, stocktaking)

· Help colleagues understand and use dashboards and reports, giving simple guidance on how metrics relate to their day‑to‑day work and provide any training required

· Build strong relationships across the business so that operational issues (stock, systems, fulfilment) are surfaced early and resolved using facts rather than guesswork

“All hands” operational culture

· Step into any part of the operation when needed – trade counter, warehouse, admin – while keeping a data lens on how each area can improve.

· Support creation of simple, measurable standards (e.g. pick accuracy targets, response times, stock count targets) and help monitor adherence.

What we’re looking for

· Advanced Microsoft Excel skills: confident with pivot tables, lookups, logical and text functions, and handling large datasets; experience building reports that others can use.

· Strong analytical and problem‑solving mindset, able to move from data extraction to insight to practical recommendation.

· Comfortable defining and working to KPIs, with an interest in how metrics link to cost, service and customer experience.

· Highly organised, reliable and able to manage multiple reporting cycles and improvement tasks without losing detail.

· Confident communicator who can explain numbers clearly to non‑technical colleagues and support data‑driven decisions.

· Hands‑on operator, willing to get involved wherever needed while maintaining reporting and data responsibilities on track.

· Experience in eCommerce, digital retail or operations analysis is desirable but not essential; a strong aptitude for data and process is more important.
